“The drive to Clarens through the farmlands at sunset was beautifully serene. Upon arrival at Mont d’Or, it felt as though we were the only guests at the hotel and were warmly received. The restaurant was empty so we ordered room service. The room was nice and comfortable. Ollie called to confirm our excursion for the next day. He met us at 8:00 a.m. sharp and off we went for the most memorable day in Lesotho. From the moment we arrived at the border crossing and until our return in the evening, Ollie was in top form. The locals would stop in their tracks and waive to him. He seems to be so much a part of the local fabric. The visit with our village hosts, the village chief and the healer were phenomenal. Everything was fascinating. The people were genuinely warm and hospitable. What an experience! We had the local bread made just for us. It was "cooked" for hours while we visited with the villagers. The hut built with cow dung was meticulously kept. Even the outhouse had a bath mat and a decorative lantern. Ollie took us to see the only ski slope in Africa—definitely a novelty! We could not have imagined a more fun-filled day. We even had time for the pony trek at sunset. I couldn’t imagine anyone other than Ollie showing us around. What a character – Soto speaking Afrikaner Rastafarian!”
